Yesterday & Today
Westmoreland County was the first colony in Pennsylvania erected
west of the Allegheny Mountains. Originally, the county seat was
in Hanna's Town until it was moved in the 1780's to its present
location in Greensburg. The county hosts many relics of several
wars including Fort Ligonier, Bushy Run Battlefield and Historic
Hanna's Town.
On the Lincoln Highway, Westmoreland County stretches from North
Huntingdon in the west to Laughlintown. Tourists can visit Idlewild
Park for a look at the Lincoln Highway Kiddie Ride or for
some old-fashioned amusement. Visitors will find that many of the
communities host festivals and parades throughout the year.
